彭于晏坦言，《狗陣》中「二郎」這個角色是一個全新挑戰。為了契合電影裡「真實」、「粗曠」的風格，他作出外形改變：「故事背景設定在 2008 年的甘肅酒泉和玉門，我的樣子跟那個環境的人不像。所以那段時期喝了很多咖啡和茶，用漱口代替刷牙，把牙弄得黃一點，曬得很黑，給化妝師也減少了一些工作量。」
彭于晏在進組第二天，就主動要求造型師將他的頭髮剃得只剩3毫米，用「寸頭+黑皮」的粗糙形象，結合深膚色和曬斑，豐富了在西北地方生活的二郎身上粗曠野生、沈默寡言的氣質。
除此之外，由於主角二郎是一個冠軍特技演員，彭于晏還因此學習了摩托車特技，飛車、甩尾、騎樓梯、衝下來再飛上去，然後落地，每天都要訓練，過程中也摔得很慘。

In 2008, Erlang, just released from prison, returned to his hometown - a small northwestern town with stray dogs everywhere. Erlang joined the dog-catching team to make a living. In a transportation accident, Erlang saved a stray black dog and kept it. In the process of getting along with the black dog, a deep affection was formed between the man and the dog, and a new life was started in mutual redemption.
The film was selected for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival for its global premiere and won the Grand Prize in the Un Certain Regard section and the Golden Palm Dog Jury Award.
